On 22th November 2017, the Japan-to-China cross-border e-commerce platform Wonderfull announced its USD 68 million series C financing and also the establishment Wonder Japan cross-border syndication. The financing is co-invested by ITOCHU Corporation, KDDI Corporation and SBI Holdings, among which ITOCHU Corporation and KDDI Corporation are strategic investors. Wonderfull will mainly spend this round of financing on the expansion and improvement of its supply chain. As one of Wonderfull’s the first institutional investors, Ventech China led Wonderfull’s A round financing in early 2016.

Ventech China has strong confidence in Wonderfull from its early stage, based on its strength in supply chain and experienced management team.  It is projected the latest strategic investment from ITOCHU Corporation and KDDI Corporation will lead the supply chain of Wonderfull to a new stage. ITOCHU Corporation is the largest business group in Japanese non-energy sectors such as lifestyle, consumption, fashion, and the first comprehensive trading company designated by Chinese government as friendly company. After this round of investment, Wonderfull will share the abundant resources of ITOCHU Corporation in both retailing and lifestyle sectors as well as more than 12,000 offline stores distributed in Mainland China, Taiwan, Thailand, etc., Besides, Wonderfull and ITOCHU Corporation will also expand their cooperation to areas like logistics and finance. Moreover, the collaboration between Wonderfull and KDDI Corporation, the biggest telecom operator in Japan, provides Wonderfull the access to KDDI’s e-commerce platform-Wowma!,  and its 47 million members. These two parties will also work jointly in channels like KDDI’s franchising stores, Wonderfull’s duty free shops and online platform to strengthen the synergy in sources and prices of the goods.

The rich experience and deep insights of Wonderfull’s management team will also help the company leverage its supply chain advantage further. As one of the first batch Chinese students working in Japanese conglomerates, Weng Yongbiao, CEO of Wonderfull, once co-founded 3721 JWord with Zhou Hongyi, founder of Qihoo 360 in 2000 and started the Kingsoft Japan, Inc with Lei Jun, CEO of XiaoMi Inc. This successful experience will continue to benefit Wonderfull in establishing long-term cooperation with high-qualified Japanese manufacturers and brands.
